If you've ever dealt with someone afflicted with Alzheimer's, you know how heart-wrenching it is to watch a loved one lose themselves and their identity. This poem, which took third place in a national contest, was written after my father and I took a cruise together. Some days he knew who I was. But other times, I was a stranger or a person from another part of his life.
